Hissou on Top after Day 1 of NLH Diamond High Roller

After a dominant performance in Event #12: €50,000 NLH Diamond High Roller at the 2024 WSOP Europe, held at King’s Resort in Rozvadov, Sirzat Hissou stands on the cusp of possibly earning his first World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet. In the last hands of Day 1, the German player took control with his Big Slick, sending Tom-Aksel Bedell to the rail, and he ended with leading the chip count. Coming in at 3,435,000 chips, Hissou is now leading the pack, with Daniel Rezaei following closely after with 3,365,000 chips.

Rezaei’s crucial hand against Viktor Blom sent him to the top of the heap. Blom was the first player to reach three million chips when he four-bet and hit pocket nines into Rezaei’s pocket queens. Rezaei, an Austrian, held firm with a clean board and eliminated Blom.

Though 30 large blinds behind the leaders, late registrant Martin Kabrhel earned third place with 2,155,000 chips.

First Day of NLH Diamond High Roller

To no one’s surprise, the €50,000 buy-in drew the top poker players hoping to claim their share of the €1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool and claim triumph at the World Series of Poker. Day 2 will begin at 2 p.m. local time on Friday, October 4, following 12 stages of play. Thirteen of the nineteen submissions reached this stage.

Hissou on Top after Day 1 of NLH Diamond High RollerNumerous seasoned pros, including those who have won bracelets in the €50,000 NLH Diamond High Roller, will return for the final table. They include Canadian high roller Daniel Dvoress, Stephen Chidwick, a poker prodigy from the UK, and the powerful Foxens, a husband-and-wife team. One other returning player is Orpen Kisacikoglu, a high-stakes regular from Turkey and the tournament champion in 2022. It is the day they wished for after learning how to play poker.

In Event #8: €25,000 NLH GGMillion€, Alessandro Pichierri denied A. Foxen his second WSOP bracelet, ending Foxen’s near-victory season. In that tournament, Foxen returned from the short stack and won €223,900 on Tuesday. Reliving that triumphant return will be his goal this time around.

Among the players, only K. Foxen retook aim at the Diamond High Roller after Kisacikoglu had caught her racing at the beginning. She was exhausted, and Hissou took the remainder of K. Foxen’s stack to indicate she was the day’s first victim. With her second attempt, she managed to bag just over one million chips, finishing the first stage with 1,065,000.
